What an pleasure it is to be back in the gym and back in Norway. I've been travelling to the Netherlands last week and I can honestly say that it was an absolute relief to come of the ferry in Stavanger and drive home. If you have lived in Norway your whole life, you might not realize it that much, that's why I love to share my experience: Life in Norway is fantastic. Life in the Netherlands isn't bad either but everything is rushed, people work 60 hours a week easily and seem to enjoy life, nature and each other a lot less. Here in Norway, we get to go to the mountains every weekend if we want to. People can actually find a house to live in, there is more than enough space for everybody. Life happens outside, sunshine or rain. It just feels like life here goes in a slower speed than the Netherlands and that's lovely. It was great to be 'home' for a week, it's even better to come home to Haugesund and home to Verftet.
And what a workout to come home to. Snatches, airsquats and running.
We started today's workout with a 12 minute interval to find a heavy double on the touch-n-go power snatch. Touch and go can be either your friend or your enemy.
It can be your friend because it's a bit easier to have enough tension in the second snatch (since you are holding on to the barbell the whole time = under tension the whole time). So going down under tension makes it easier to come up with enough tension again as well, what can make the snatch a bit easier.
It can also be your enemy, since that holding on to tension might be nice, but it's not easy. A heavy barbell becomes a lot heavier when it's been in your hands a while.
So, TnG-power snatch, Friend or enemy? Have a look in the scores and see for yourself.
After that, we had a nice interval workout with 2 parts. On a 10 minute clock, we first did 4 rounds of 30 airsquats and a 200 meter run (outside, jeeeeej!). After these 4 rounds, you would do as many snatches as possible in the remaining time. Did you do your four rounds fast, then you have a lot of time for the snatches. But being completely dead, because you went so fast, before picking up the barbell for the first snatch, wasn't smart either. Finding a nice balance here and finding the right speed is essential for a good score.
In other news today: New T-shirts were designed by no one less than our design-legend Harald, accompanied by his dog today!
Also, Liv Marie, who is recovering from a years-long shoulder injury, took her first snatches in many, many months today. With some help from the coaches, a lot of hard work and patience, she is getting there. Big, big personal victory!
The weather isn't looking too bad this week, the programming isn't looking bad either, so it's going to be a good one. Sleep well, enjoy and see you at the box!
